Where it all began
I think most people forget about the beginnings of photography. It all started with black and white photography. Often black & white can be more powerful than color as color can be distracting for what the photo is intended to be. For me, I look at and look for light much differently when I photograph for black & white. Where shadows might be a bit hindering in color photography, I look for them when shooting for black & white. There are different elements of light, tone, texture, & contrast that work very differently between color and monotone.
I always start a session Bridal Sessions with “do you like black & white?” This lets me know how to incorporate my creativity in the art of black & white photography. I think when it comes to Bridal Photography, shooting for monotone style pictures allows me tome pictures that are more open to interpretation. Another attribute is that black & white bridal photography draw more attention to the subjects with are the Bride and her dress. While color is amazing in its own right, there is something special about Black & White pictures, that brings a very different feel, mood and emotion about the picture. A bride in her wedding dress and no wedding schedule attached equals a great time to creatively use light and photograph you in your dress in ways I normally can not shoot on a wedding day. This allows me to photograph a complete portfolio with multiple styles and allowing to create the latest trends in bridal photography.
Any one that has been married will tell you that your wedding day will be a blur. The great thing about bridals, even if you don’t plan to have a portrait on display the day of your wedding, is that we know going into your wedding that we have you and your dress covered when things get behind schedule on your wedding day.
